THE POINT OF HOME
A Brief Theology of Family

By Kurt Bruner

Most believers are called to worship God through the intimacy of marriage and the blessing of children. So it is vital that we embrace a Christian view of the purpose and priority of family.

SHOW CHRIST – Every marriage is intended to be a masterpiece reflecting THE marriage between God and His people. (Gen 1:27, Gen 15, Jeremiah 3, Ephesians 5:22-33, Rev. 21:9)

“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery – but I am talking about Christ and the church. (Ephesians 5:31-33)

RAISE BELIEVERS – Those blessed with the gift of children and grandchildren are called to disciple the next generation as life’s greatest priority. (Exodus 20, Deuteronomy 6, Psalm 78:1-8, Ephesians 6:1-4)

He commanded our forefathers to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God. (Psalm 78:5-7)

BE JESUS – A strong Christian family is where The Word can become Flesh as we conform our lives to the image and example of Christ. (John 1:14, Philippians 2, I Timothy 3, I John 3:16)

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. (I John 3:16)
